6 p.m.—So it’s Thursday evening and I am at the first dress rehearsal. Tomorrow we do the nice dress rehearsal in front of family and friends—tonight is when we walk through all the cues and work through all the kinks.
Observation number one. The tent looks amazing!
Designers and models are rushing back and forth. Several designers share models and this is when they will practice getting out of one outfit and into another in a wicked-short period of time. Oh, and they need to do this without damaging anything and then they have to strut out and walk pretty in front of 700-plus people. But first we just practice walking the runway and posing.
Here’s the truth about a rehearsal. It’s kinda tedious. To get it right you’ve got to practice and that means going through the same bits over and over and over again. Sigh.
We are practicing the music cues. They make it look so easy on TV.
DJs AndrewAndrew just tweeted out a little bootleg video of the rehearsal–if you see it, models are not yet in their official garments so don’t be alarmed.
The model instructor is on a mic and I can hear her giving tips—including don’t fall off the end of the runway. I know it could happen, but still … funny.
Observation number two: Do not get between a horde of hungry models and designers and their dinner—especially when they’ve spent the last three hours walking up and down a runway.
9 p.m. FINALLY I get see some couture! A few garment switches from what I saw at the photoshoot—and they are AMAZING! But that’s all I can say for now. You’ll just have to come see for yourself.
There might still be a ticket left. Good luck. www.ccad.edu/fashion.
