Veronica Jane Abraham, a senior in Illustration, got the chance to illustrate a satirical parenting book that was released this November.

The book, Daddy’s Favorite Juice (the bottles in the fridge that aren’t for you), is a modern and humorous spin on traditional children’s books. Author Mike Nemeth is, according to his website, “a self-proclaimed world’s second most published fake children’s book author.” The site goes on to describe the book as follows: “Daddy’s Favorite Juice teaches your child important skills, like counting, different types of juices, and how to get ‘adult beverages’ for you from the refrigerator.”

While developing his book, which he describes as being “for any new dad or father-to-be,” Nemeth searched for a Columbus artist to illustrate it—preferably one who was being trained at CCAD.  That is when he was introduced to Abraham, and the partnership began.

They had weekly project meetings to talk about the script and the artist’s progress. During this time Abraham showed Nemeth sketches, layouts, and finished artwork.

She completed a total of 26 illustrations for the book, including a full cover, two end-page spreads, 16 single pages, and four two-page spreads. They were all digitally painted using Adobe Photoshop.

“It has been great to gain exposure and to experience the marketing strategies and business side of the book along with illustrating,” Abraham said. “We even have a road map set for sequels in 2012—imagine Max getting his uncle dates!”

This was Abraham’s first illustration for a published book, and she is looking forward to upcoming projects with the author.

“When I received the finalized copy of the book, I felt a huge sense of accomplishment, and I realized the many hours put into it were all worth it,” said Abraham.

The book is available on the Baby Daddy Books site and
