Thirteen student designers sent glamorously condom-covered models down the runway Oct. 23 for one of Columbus’ most unique fundraisers: Planned Parenthood’s Condom Couture at Shadowbox Live.

Now in its sixth year, the annual fashion show charges local art and design students with the task of constructing runway-worthy garments out of condoms alone.

Proceeds from the event benefit reproductive health care and comprehensive sex education services by Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio.

Two CCAD students took home awards for their designs. Fashion Design junior Sarah Ribble’s peacock-inspired gown made out of nearly 800 condoms won first place.

Ribble hand cut and painted more than 300 “peacock feathers” and conducted four different fittings with model Rachel Murdock to perfect the dress.

“I’m a big supporter of Planned Parenthood and everything that they stand for,” Ribble said. “Condom Couture was the perfect opportunity for me to use my skills learned at CCAD to aid a cause that I am passionate about.”

Fashion Design senior Ashleigh Jones earned third place for her entry.
