The King Arts Complex will honor Columbus College of Art & Design and President Denny Griffith on Dec. 19 at their 7th Legends and Legacies event.

“The King Arts Complex is excited to honor Denny Griffith for his unparalleled positive impact on the arts in Central Ohio,” said Demetries Neely, executive director and CEO. “As an institution we benefit greatly from the example Denny and CCAD continue to set for excellence and innovation.”

The annual awards recognize local, regional, and national leaders who have shown their commitment to freedom through their efforts in social justice, human rights, cultural democracy, artistic excellence, and service. Previous recipients of the award include Maya Angelou, Aminah Robinson, Loann Crane, the Tuskegee Airmen, Ruby Dee, Mari Evans, Nikki Giovanni, Odetta, Sonia Sanchez Val Gray-Ward, Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, James Counts Early, Samella S. Lewis, Lerone Bennett, Johnnetta B. Cole, Larry James, Bernie Casey, Hal Williams, Archie Griffin, Robert Lazarus, Doug Kridler, Cathe Kobacker, Wayne Lawson, Lynn Greer, and Gene Walker.

Named as CCAD’s third president in 1998, Griffith has guided the college through significant expansion of its facilities, robust growth in fundraising, the opening of the CCAD MindMarket, and a complete restructuring of the college’s curriculum, which will launch in fall 2014.

Griffith will retire in June 2014 after 16 years of service to the college.

“It is our distinct pleasure to recognize [Denny] for his accomplishments and commitment as he transitions to the next chapter of his life,” said Mark Corna, CCAD and King Arts Complex board member. “Denny has provided leadership and vision in the creative community in Columbus and he has helped spread the word of the importance of the arts to the business community.”

The event will be held Dec. 19 in the Pythian Theater at the King Arts Complex, 867 Mt. Vernon Ave., Columbus, OH, 43203. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
