An ornament designed by Illustration sophomore Shakir Smith graced one of the White House Christmas trees in December.

Smith’s design was chosen by the Virgin Islands National Guard Family Program to represent the Virgin Islands on the Christmas tree dedicated to the National Guard.

Smith’s ornament was one of 54 designs featured on one of many trees decorated in honor of service members, veterans, and their families.

Smith is from Kingshill Christiansted in the Virgin Islands, and attended Saint Croix Central High School.
