The jury examines senior Ryun Harrison’s final design

Fashion Design juniors and seniors presented final designs and technique swatches to a panel of professionals on March 14 as part of the semester-long Denim Directions Design Challenge sponsored by Cotton Inc.

The 10 finalists chosen by the jury will travel to Cotton Inc. headquarters in Cary, NC, to observe manufacturing techniques and then return to Columbus to construct their final garments.

The jury included Elizabeth Busey, manager of design at Tween Brands, CCAD Fashion Design Professor Becky Robinson, and Ashley Thornton, marketing assistant at Cotton Incorporated.

The challenge introduced students to denim finishing processes used in the fashion industry through hands-on workshops and encouraged them to rethink traditional uses of denim in fashion.

After the final garments are constructed, a select group of industry professionals and Cotton Inc. representatives will choose two winners who will receive scholarship money, and have their work featured in SHOW the 135th Annual Student Exhibition and a Fashion Design program presentation.

The 10 finalists are Fashion Design seniors Ryun Harrison from Alpharetta, GA (Alpharetta High School), Ashleigh Jones from Westerville, OH (Central High School), Katsiaryna Khadzko from Shawnee, OH (Miller High School), Seth Stephens from Pickerington, OH (Pickerington High School North), Sarah Tanner from West Jefferson, OH (West Jefferson High School), Bryston Walters from Westerville, OH (Big Walnut High School), and Sarah Wong from Cincinnati, OH (Colerain High School); and Fashion Design juniors Derek Fergusson from Wadsworth, OH (Wadsworth Senior High School), May Sleiman from Blacklick, OH, and Cleopatra Slough from Lawrence, KS (Lawrence Free State High School).
