Fine Arts Professor John Kortlander and Adjunct Instructor and MFA alumnus Andrew McCauley (CCAD 2013) presented a paper titled Garden of Symbosis at the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Culture, Value, and Justice at the University of Vaasa in Vaasa, Finland.
The conference brought scholars from 14 different countries and universities together to create new research openings in the interdisciplinary field of comparative cultural studies and discuss a range of topics related to culture, values, and justice.
Kortlander’s paintings and short films have been exhibited in numerous juried, invitational, and gallery exhibitions and in film festivals throughout the United States and Europe. These include exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, the Wexner Center in Columbus, OH, the Studio Arts Center International in Florence, Italy, and the Kulturrathaus in Dresden, Germany.
McCauley’s work revolves around the effects that diseases like multiple sclerosis have on the body and mind. His paintings combine two-dimensional media, including acrylic paint, watercolor paint, graphite, and ink, with fabric and paper that are mounted on materials like wood and muslin. McCauley’s work has been widely exhibited throughout Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan.
