Photography Professor Publishes Fourth Paper Craft Book

Associate Professor and Photography alumnus Hiroshi Hayakawa (CCAD 1995) recently published Paper Birds: 25+ Projects to Copy, Cut & Fold.

The book includes templates for more than 25 birds that can be constructed out of paper, including a swan, canary, bald eagle, and flamingo.

Hayakawa has published three other paper craft books: Kirigami Menagerie, Paper Animals, and Paper Pups. His fifth book, Paper Monsters and Curious Creatures, will be available Aug. 5.

Paper Birds: 25+ Projects to Copy, Cut & Fold  is available in bookstores and online June 3.

Hayakawa teaches photography, material studies, and drawing at CCAD. He was born and raised in Japan and works in alternative photography, kinetic sculpture, and paper craft.

    And he dedicated this Paper Bird book to Chilin Yu, retired head librarian of CCAD that’s how thankful he is of her never ending support of his art work and for their friendship through the years. She’s family.

    Thats sounds awesome! It seems to me that this would be a great book not only for children but also for adults who want to have fun and learn a bit closer as you can in a simplified form of origami. Because it’s probably a little book based on origami, right?
