We do our best to get most of the news you submit to us onto the CCAD News Blog, but since there are more than 10,000 of you making news all over the world, not everything can make it into the blog. We’re glad to have another venue where we can share everything with you—this newsletter’s classnotes.

James Markle (CCAD, Industrial Design, 1970) presented a speech about his environmental photography at the Tahoe Art League. Read more here.

Matthew Kaser (CCAD, Industrial Design, 1984) and his design firm, Kaser Design, were recently awarded another interpretive planning and design job in Texas. The newest project is the historic site Presidio de San Sabá, in Menard, Texas.

Kurt Fondriest (CCAD, Fine Arts, 1985) was included in the annual Misericordia Home group show, which was visited by more than 1,400 guests. Read more here.

Local tech company Bluemile, ranked in 2010 by Inc. Magazine as one of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, is featuring artwork by CCAD alumni and faculty in its New Albany office as one way to introduce visitors and other programs to the college. Read more here.

Times New Viking (TNV), whose members are 2004 Fine Arts alumni Beth Murphy, Adam Elliot, and Jared Phillips, were featured in the June 30^th Columbus Dispatch for their upcoming performance at the Wexner Center for the Arts. The group hits the stage Friday, July 1 at 9 p.m.

In his piece, Trip to Studio a Mature Step as Noisy Trio Grows Up, Kevin Joy writes, “A listen to the group’s latest album—the low-key and borderline lovely Dancer Equired—proves that the noise-rock band has taken a more melodic direction while maintaining its longtime frills-free ethos.”

“Like always, [TNV] clocked weeks on tour, zigzagging North America in an old Chevrolet Astro van and jetting periodically to Europe,” Joy continues. “The pace makes Columbus an ideal base for the band, whose members live in the weathered North Campus neighborhood dubbed ‘Washington Beach’ by hipsters and music types.”

The Wexner Center is located at 1871 N. High Street in Columbus. Tickets to the show are $15. Additional information about the performance is available here.

Times New Viking (TNV) is a Columbus-based trio that fits very close to our little CCAD hearts—all three members are Fine Arts graduates from the Class of 2004. Jared Phillips, Beth Murphy, and Adam Elliot, the members of TNV, were recently featured in Columbus Monthly magazine for their latest music video, No Room to Live.

The video for No Room to Live was directed and edited by Columbus artists Brandon Reichard and Pelham Johnston.  Each frame (nearly 3,000) was printed from real video and then hand drawn, colored, or decorated by 40 artists, and put back together to create a two-and-a-half minute musical piece of art.
It now has nearly 26,000 views on Vimeo.

“It came together like this,” wrote Columbus Monthly’s Joel Oliphint. “Reichard and Johnston put a simple coloring book computer effect over the original video to make it look like a black-and-white line drawing. Then, after adjusting the video’s speed to 12 frames per second, every single frame was printed out on 8.5 x 11-inch paper.”

“Johnston and Reichard gave the artists a paper-clipped packet of printed frames to color or decorate however they desired over two months; most artists received 12 frames (or one second), but some did more,” Oliphint continued.
