<p>Senior Industrial Design major <a href="http://ccad.digication.com/Hongjie/Home">Hongjie Yang</a> will introduce four new designs at the <em>A+: Young Designers’ Platform</em>, January 30 through February 3 at the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF).</p>
<p>A jury, which included representatives from MOMA and designers from other fields, selected Yang and three others to showcase their work during the bi-annual event.  He will introduce Veer, a stainless steel soap dispenser; Chromis, a recycled aluminum pencil sharpener inspired by the form of fish; the Liquido iPhone case; and the acrylic Hydro+ 20 oz. intelligent water bottle, which tracks the user&#8217;s daily hydration cycles.</p>
<p>NYIGF is held in January and August. It showcases the very best lines across the home, lifestyle and gift spectrum and is attended by more than 35,000 individuals from more than 85 countries. For more information about the fair, visit its <a href="http://www.nyigf.com/Home.aspx">website</a>.</p>

<p>CCAD students in Industrial Design&#8217;s junior studio class designed X-Acto  pencil sharpeners for a business partnership project with Elmer&#8217;s  during spring semester. After conducting group research of various  markets, students pursued individual designs to compete for prize money.  The first-place design was submitted by Hongjie Yang. Igor Zemskov and  Jeff Ras placed second and third, respectively, with Steve Hughett and  Christos Ragias receiving honorable mentions. Professors Tom Kier and  Joel Gundlach coordinated the partnership activities.</p>
