Marissa Haley Schmidt's "Sun Bear"

Winners and finalists of the eighth annual Lowell Tolstedt Drawing Prize have been announced. This year’s contest was judged by a visiting artist, Professor Dana Saulnier of Miami University.

Winners included Illustration senior Marissa Haley Schmidt (first place and $500), Fine Arts senior Stephanie Cook (second place and $250), and Illustration junior Erlson Chunga Neba (third place $100 supply store gift certificate). An honorable mention went to Fine Arts junior Nikohl Gallas.

“Dana was very impressed with the quality of the work, as well as the energy and enthusiasm of the students here at CCAD,” said Rob Robbins, chair of drawing and print. “He was extremely contemplative and considerate in choosing this year’s winner, and said that the decision was very difficult.”

The winning drawings will be exhibited in the THE SHOW: The 133^rd Annual Student Exhibition, May 11–Sept. 14, 2012 on CCAD’s campus.

The Lowell Tolstedt Drawing Prize was established to celebrate and promote the strong drawing tradition at CCAD. The prize honors Lowell Tolstedt, a professor emeritus and Fine Arts dean who retired from CCAD after more than 35 years at the college.
