Alumnus Richard Cowdrey (CCAD 1981) illustrated the re-released children’s book The Legend of the Candy Cane.

Written by Lori Walburg, the book was originally released 15 years ago and talks about the Christian symbolism behind the popular candy cane. Its publisher, Zonderkidz, decided to re-release it with updated illustrations by Cowdrey.

“The setting is more turn of the century, and the colors are bright and engaging,” said Walburg in an online article. “In addition, most of the illustrations feature a cat, a dog, and a mouse; so many small children will enjoy finding their furry friends in each spread.”

Cowdrey is known for his children’s book illustrations, including the New York Times #1 bestseller Bad Dog, Marley! He has worked with top publishers including Scholastic, Harper Collins, McGraw Hill, Penguin, and more.
