<p>David Burghy, associate professor, Foundation Studies, was presented  with the fourth annual Award for Teaching Excellence during an April  29th ceremony in the Canzani Center. The award recognizes the exemplary  efforts of CCAD&#8217;s faculty, their overall contributions to the college as  a whole, and use of classroom settings to engage and enhance student  experiences. Nominations are submitted by current CCAD students, faculty  and alumni. Burghy (Industrial Design, &#8217;89) teaches three-dimensional design and structural  drawing and is co-author of <em>Structural Drawing and Applications,</em> 1998 and 2003 editions.</p>
<p>The  ceremony also honored four faculty retirees: Margaret Armbrust, Ph.D.,  professor, Liberal Arts; Tom Kier, professor, chair, Industrial Design;  Robin McKell, associate professor, Liberal Arts; and Bruce Robinson,  professor, Fine Arts.</p>

<p>CCAD students in Industrial Design&#8217;s junior studio class designed X-Acto  pencil sharpeners for a business partnership project with Elmer&#8217;s  during spring semester. After conducting group research of various  markets, students pursued individual designs to compete for prize money.  The first-place design was submitted by Hongjie Yang. Igor Zemskov and  Jeff Ras placed second and third, respectively, with Steve Hughett and  Christos Ragias receiving honorable mentions. Professors Tom Kier and  Joel Gundlach coordinated the partnership activities.</p>

<p>Mark Hall, a junior majoring in Industrial Design, is the newest recipient of the Bernard R. Stockwell  Industrial Design Scholarship.</p>
<p>Stockwell, a former department dean, and Hall recently met for lunch. Joined by <a href="http://designconsciousness.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Carl Garant</a>, CCAD&#8217;s current dean of Industrial  Design, and department Chair Tom Kier, Hall enjoyed the unique  opportunity to tap into the experience and knowledge of three seasoned  professionals. The Stockwell scholarship was established in 2006 thanks  to a generous donation by Howard D. LeFevre.</p>
