Advertising & Graphic Design alumnus Mike Shirley (CCAD 1972) was recently featured in the Washington Post for his involvement with Camp Moss Hollow, a summer camp supported by Washington Post readers.

Shirley has been attending Camp Moss Hollow since it opened its doors in 1966. Today, he serves as the camp’s director in addition to his teaching position at Crossland High School in Temple Hills, Virginia.

Each year, the Washington Post asks its readers to make a donation to their Send a Kid to Camp campaign, running through July 29. Their goal this year is to raise $500,000 to help underprivileged children attend the summer camp.

“The camp was to create an atmosphere where the poorest of the poor had a place to come,” Shirley said in the article. “And it’s not just throwing out a ball and playing with them. It was a place to prepare us for the American dream, a place we can call our own, feel comfortable, feel safe, and just keep on developing.”
