Grades 8-9 Foundations of Painting

This course is an introduction to observational painting techniques as applied to working from still-lives with a focus on basic color theory in acrylic and oil paints. Students explore traditional painting methods through direct studio experience and studying the work of historical and contemporary painters. Color theory and mixing as it relates to representational painting, basic compositional strategies, safe-handling of materials, and good studio practices are discussed and employed.
