Career Services Workshops
Free Workshops for CCAD Students and Alumni
Career Services offers presentations and workshops throughout the year for current students and alumni. All workshops are one hour and are held in the Loann Crane Center for Design multipurpose room unless otherwise noted.
Career Services is also happy to conduct workshops for CCAD classes and groups. CCAD faculty and staff can request a workshop by filling out this form.

Resumes & Cover Letters
Communicating about your skills doesn’t have to be boring! Learn how to design a creative and professional resume that will get you noticed. This workshop will cover what to include and what to omit on resumes, cover letters, and emails. After the presentation, there will be time for questions and one-on-one guidance.
Job Searching: Strategies for Success
Learn the essentials of starting a professional job search including finding jobs, working with hiring managers, and utilizing resources. This workshop will also review how to use online job boards and resources.
Utilizing Career Services and CCADCareers.com
The Career Services staff will review the ways their office can help you prepare for the career you want, even starting in your first semester at CCAD. They will also provide information on how to use the online job and internship posting service, ccadcareers.com. New Student Seminar Credit provided.
Interviewing with Impact
How do you present yourself and your work during an interview? Learn typical interview formats and questions, strategies for answering difficult questions, and questions to ask employers. After the presentation, there will be time for questions and one-on-one guidance.
Friends with Benefits: Networking and Social Media
The Career Services Office will provide you with important tips on how to effectively use your social networks and social media tools (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) to further your career goals. New Student Seminar Credit provided.
Making the Most of a Career Fair
Learn how to turn a job fair into a job offer! Get tips on preparing for a career fair, what to expect the day of, and how to follow-up with employers effectively.
Applying to Residencies & Graduate Schools
What is an MFA? How do I get a residency? Learn about the general process for researching and applying to graduate schools and programs. This workshop covers the basics about what you need to know if you are considering continuing your education after CCAD.
Diversity in the Workplace
This presentation discusses cultural diversity, workplace statistics, legalities, and how to identify company cultures. Challenge yourself to think about how you express your identity (or identities) as you transition to the workplace.
CCAD Juried Art Fair: How to Apply
With the transition to a juried art fair, CCAD wants to ensure that all students and alumni understand how to use the software ZAPP. We encourage all participants to create accounts and begin to upload sample images prior to the presentation. We will go over the type of work that has successfully sold at previous art sales, as well as answer questions about the jury’s considerations and the application process.
Career Services also brings in guest presentors to share their expertise on topics of particular interest to creative professionals.
Selling Smart: Contracts, Copyright, and More with Todd Collis
Todd W. Collis, a partner with the Columbus law firm of Collis, Smiles & Collis, LLC, will speak on and answer questions pertaining to copyright, trademark, contracts, licensing, commission, freelance, and non-compete legal matters in the fields of art and design.
Building Financial Habits with Bill Clavert
This workshop focuses on budgeting and saving for about-to-be-new professionals. Assess where you stand and learn more about goal setting, creating and managing budgets, and tracking your progress toward your goals.
Employer Panel on Portfolios
Representatives from area employers will discuss their perspective on portfolios—including how to use portfolios successfully during the hiring process and what they have seen that worked well (and not so well). Questions and answers to follow.
Selling Smart: Pricing Your Art with Mike Bonardi
Practicing artist, CCAD alumni, and current CCAD staff member Mike Bonardi will go over his experiences participating in Art Sales, including advice about selling and pricing your work.
Fishbowl Interviews: Watch and Learn
Watch current CCAD students interview with actual hiring managers. Preselected students complete a mock interview, followed by interviewer feedback on the interview and other general interviewing tips. After the interview, there will be time for audience members to ask questions.
Money Matters: How to Build Financial Security
This workshop is targeted at helping graduating seniors and entrepreneurial spirits gain foundational understanding of what happens after college. Presenter Craig Loose will share key points followed by a Q&A session. Space is limited for this interactive presentation—RSVP to Careers Services. This workshop is held in the MindMarket, located in Design Studios on Broad.
