Close Quarters at
canzani center gallery
Close Quarters is a small but important exhibition space in the Canzani Center Gallery. It is a display case that is part of the visitor desk at the gallery that showcases visual and written works of art, including installations, works on paper, manifestos, poetry, statements, or really anything that fits into the confined space. What big ideas can be communicated on a smaller scale? How large does a gallery really need to be? Close Quarters seeks to explore these questions and encourage discourse about the relationship between works of art and the space in which they are exhibited.

The Canzani Center Gallery Staff, To Do:, 2008
To Do: is an installation of handwritten “to do lists” made by the staff of the Canzani Center gallery: Jim Voorhies, Danny Tuss, Steve Lombardi, and Katy Castronovo. These particular lists are from the installation of Taking Shelter and Exact Imagination, which were shown at the gallery Feb. 3 through April 5. Not only do these lists show how beautiful the staff’s handwriting is, they also shed some light on the process of putting a gallery exhibition together.
