William Bende awarded Liberace Scholarship

The Division of Fashion Design is pleased to announce its selection of William Bende as the college’s Liberace Scholar for 2007-2008. He will receive a $2,500 grant from the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts in recognition of this honor. Liberace Scholars are chosen by CCAD faculty on the basis of merit from students entering their junior or senior years in Fashion Design. The Liberace Foundation provides scholarship funding to colleges nationwide via an annual grant competition.

Bende was born and raised in Ohio and has spent most of his life in Columbus. In 2000, he earned a BFA in drawing, with a minor in photography, from Bowling Green State University. His fashion-based oil paintings have been shown from Columbus to Seattle. In 2006, he realized that his true passion was not only to paint fashion, but to create it, and he began his studies at CCAD. In addition to the Liberace Foundation Scholarship, he has been awarded a CCAD Merit Award and the Charles W. Hinson Scholarship.

The mission of the Liberace Foundation for the Performing and Creative Arts is to help talented students pursue careers in the performing and creative arts through scholarship assistance. Since 1976, the Liberace Foundation has awarded more than five million dollars in scholarship grants to more than 2200 students at over 110 colleges and universities.
