Photography Facilities description

The photography program at CCAD has extensive traditional and digital facilities. The program is housed on the second floor of Kinney hall. Both traditional wet photography and digital facilities are available.

The department has an 1800 sq. ft studio with 18ft ceiling. This facility houses extensive studio lighting equipment, medium and large format film and digital cameras as well as assorted studio props and equipment.

There are 2,482 sq. ft of darkroom and traditional photography lab space. Two gang b&w darkrooms with 37 individual enlargers, 4 private color darkrooms, a 30”wide color print processor, and an entire darkroom dedicated to non commercial photosensitive processes are all available to students.

The digital photographic facilities are also extensive with 1,688 sq. ft. of computer lab space and 42 workstations dedicated to still photography. In addition to the workstations the department has an extensive collection of printers and scanners.

The department uses a variety of imaging applications in its digital program. Photoshop, Lightroom, Dreamweaver, AfterEfects, Final Cut Pro, Flash, along with a selection of proprietary print and scanning applications are available to students.

There is a 529 sq. ft. gallery and 180 ft of running wall space that is available for exhibition within the department with much more available throughout the campus.

Because the department is also part of a larger division which house animation, video, and interactive design there are extensive facilities and digital assets that students who are interested in expanding their work into related media have access to. This kind of exploration is encouraged and supported by the faculty and curriculum.
