Shannon Moore

My name is Shannon Moore and I am from Poughkeepsie, New York. It’s not quite New York City, but I have definitely been around a city environment similar to that of Columbus many times throughout my life. Ever since I was younger, my focus has always been in drawing and painting. These passions highly influenced my decision to go to an art school, even though I always had an interest in sports and music too. I am currently a junior, and I have absolutely no regrets about my choice. Also, I have been a tour guide for the Admissions Office since my sophomore year, which has helped me develop more skills and confidence. It has given me the opportunity to learn more about my school and community, and how to communicate with new people.
It was during my sophomore year of high school when I first seriously started considering pursuing art as a career, looking into colleges in cities closer to my hometown and some in neighboring states. I heard about CCAD through college fairs that consisted primarily of art schools or universities with art programs. Since I knew I did not want to go to a huge university, the idea of CCAD’s more specialized programs really caught my interest. Keeping my options open, however, I still applied to a handful of other schools.
The main reason I decided to attend CCAD was clear after I visited the campus. I had visited many schools beforehand, but CCAD was the only school I really felt comfortable going back to, even though it was the farthest away. All of the people I talked to made me feel very welcome and assured me that I could succeed in the programs that are offered. Columbus, in general, did not intimidate me like other cities had before.
Now that I am halfway through my CCAD career, I feel like I know the school and the surrounding area very well. One of my favorite things about CCAD is the community. It is just the right size for me to see familiar faces around campus, but there are still many friends to be made, too. It is easy to discuss my artwork and ask questions about my future with teachers who are more than willing to help and guide me. Many friends I have made share similar passions, so we relate well with each other and push each other to create the best work possible. Support is everywhere at CCAD.
