Many of you are aware that cases of swine flu have been discovered within the United States. Local media now report that three probable cases have been discovered in Central Ohio as well. Very little additional information is currently available about those local cases and they are currently under investigation by local health officials.
Most individuals diagnosed with swine flu had recently made a trip to Mexico, where incidents of swine flu are currently more prevalent. Understand that the symptoms of swine flu closely resemble seasonal flu and include fever, weakness, coughing and lack of appetite. It is contagious. The best way to prevent swine flu is to continue to follow these steps:
Swine flu can be successfully treated with medication. If you think you might have the flu, please see your primary care doctor. He or she can test you for the flu and will be able to identify the strain of the flu you may have. CCAD students can also contact Capital Primary Care at 614.566.9933 to arrange for same-day medical care and evaluation, in most cases.
CCAD is monitoring this situation carefully and will provide updates as needed to help protect the health of everyone on campus. The best place for current information on swine flu is the Center for Disease Control Web site at http://www.cdc.gov.
