Fashion Design
Introduction to Sewing (for grades 10-12)
This introductory course will explore sewing and beginning pattern drafting skills. Students will become familiar with sewing machines and draft ideas. By the end of the class, students will have designed, drafted, sewn and finished one of their original designs. No previous sewing experience is required.

Basic Drawing
Drawing is the process of creating an image on a surface using various tools and techniques. Explore simple perspective, accurate proportion, composition, and tonal values, using pencil, charcoal, and other drawing media. Create still-life studies and landscapes.

Ceramics
Ceramics is the art of making objects from clay whose final form results from the action of heat. Explore some of the basic techniques such as hand building and throwing. Create items like cups, bowls, and lidded pots. Learn to fire your work in a kiln. This class is designed for all skill levels.

Figure Drawing
Figure drawing is the pictoral representation of the human body in various forms and positions. Working from the nude model, explore proportion, anatomy, perspective, foreshortening, analysis of form, and planer structures of the figure. Create drawings with particular attention to line and value.

Introduction to Design & Color
Design is the process of conceiving and executing a plan for a project. A solid understanding of design and color is the foundation of all visual arts pursuits. Learn the vocabulary of art. Keep an art notebook. Explore the fundamental techniques of composition, drawing, color theory, and painting.

Oil Painting
Oil paint is an art medium that embodies a unique thickness that can be brushed, spread, pushed, and scrapped. Develop a fundamental understanding of this complex medium. Learn how to handle paint, prepare surfaces, mix colors, organize picture a plane, and develop perception. Progressive exercises are designed for all skill levels.

Oil Painting en Plein Air
Spend balmy summer evenings learning the techniques for painting on location. Learn the language of color, how to set up a drawing for painting, and hone observational skills with figures and still-lifes in the studio. These tools move outdoors, en plein air, where students use the basics of picture making to capture the mood and essence of a scene quickly and accurately.

Portfolio Development
A portfolio is a deliberately organized collection of an artist's work that showcases accomplishment and progress over a period of time. Explore the delicate balance between the creation of art and the skills necessary to evaluate and organize that art. Create observational drawings from still-life, and portraits.

Printmaking
Printmaking involves the creation of a master plate from which multiple images are made. Explore some of the basic techniques in printmaking such as relief, intaglio, lithography, and screen-printing. Develop a basic understanding of the printmaking equipment and create your own editions.

Adobe Illustrator
Illustrator is a drawing software program. This introductory course explores palettes and tools, gradients, masking, and more advanced applications. Review websites and artwork created by professionals to gain understanding by example. Create a logo, business card, letterhead, or an illustration. A basic understanding of computer processes is recommended to enroll in this course.

Adobe Photoshop
Learn to use various tools, toolbars, and commands of the software program Adobe Photoshop to enhance your artwork. Discover advanced techniques and processes such as layer masking, levels and curves, multiply mode, black line art and tra-digital. Students will choose a style and complete a final project.

Graphic Design (advanced)
Learn how to more efficiently communicate with designers and vendors with graphic design. Further develop your skills and processes in the world of graphic design, web design, branding, and printing. A working knowledge of Macintosh or windows is required.

Photography
Beginning to intermediate photographers will gain practical tools to create more dynamic, visually appealing black and white images. Proper use and handling of 35mm cameras will be discussed with emphasis on techniques for exposure and aesthetics. All students will be asked to have a working 35mm camera plus be responsible for their own film and processing. Students will have lab access during class time.

Using Adobe InDesign
In-Design is a desktop publishing software program. This introductory course explores various tools and techniques to create advertisements, newsletters, and catalogs. Students familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, FreeHand or QuarkXPress can learn how to transfer their knowledge to In-Design.

Spring Painting En Plein Air
Spend the weekend painting the blooming colors of spring in beautiful Geneva Hills. Learn techniques for painting in pastel/watercolor on location. Experience creating color palettes that capture the mood and impressionistic essence of the splendid spring colors at Geneva Hills Resort and Lake in May. Improve your color knowledge and technical skills in the great outdoors. Overnight accommodations can be made through Geneva Hills at an additional cost.
