Saturday Morning Art Classes

CCAD Mission

Columbus College of Art & Design, a private, four-year degree-granting institution of higher education, prepares tomorrow’s creative leaders for professional careers. With a history of commitment to fundamentals and quality, CCAD advances a distinct, challenging, and inclusive learning culture that supports individual development in art, design, and the humanities.

Program Overview

Saturday Morning Art Classes offers quality art instruction for interested and gifted students throughout central Ohio. CCAD is dedicated to a program modeled after our renowned college foundation program enabling youth to develop superior skills and gain a strong background in the visual arts. CCAD faculty and area arts professionals provide instruction, with CCAD college students assisting in the classroom. Children are guided through diverse artistic experiences designed to increase their skill level and exposure to a wide variety of techniques and media. Creativity and imagination are developed while expanding aesthetic and cultural sensitivity and stimulating a vital interest in the visual arts.

Courses are structured with sequential lessons that are age appropriate. Classes are kept small with an instructor and an assistant to ensure one-on-one instruction time for each student. Instructors are chosen for their dedication to education in the visual arts and their own particular strengths as artists.  All grades are skills-based designed to impart the greatest amount of technical training and exploration of materials suitable for the grade level. We challenge students to be creative while giving them the tools necessary to realize their visions.

Saturday Morning Art Classes run for two 10-week terms during the school year. Early elementary grades explore a variety of media and techniques designed to increase the student’s awareness of art as well as foster creativity. Fifth through ninth grade students may choose from three course offerings geared to their grade level, and intended to grow the students’ skill level and creative thinking. Upper level students may choose from a menu of 10-week courses designed to increase skills in an intensive work situation.
