Safety & security

The Safety & Security Office enforces and maintains the procedures and equipment needed to ensure a safe campus. Security Officers are trained to respond to emergency situations (including CPR and First Aid certified), they offer safety-related assistance in a variety of ways, and they enforce college policies to preserve a healthy and productive learning environment.

On-campus safety information

  • There are emergency call boxes located outdoors around the campus that can be used to call campus security or 911. Call boxes are indicated on the campus map.
  • A free security escort/shuttle service is available during the academic term.
  • Students using campus lab facilities after 8 pm may request a drive home by the security officer in the campus security car if their home is within the following boundaries: Parsons Avenue to the east, Main Street to the south, Fourth Street to the west, and Spring Street to the north.
  • Employees and students may request a security officer to escort them anywhere on campus by foot anytime of the day. Security officers may be reached 24 hours a day by calling 222.6165 (6165 on campus phones). Campus phones are installed in several buildings across campus that can be used for this purpose for no charge.
  • Safety procedures and practices are presented to all students and CCAD employees through various mailings, presentations, and programs.
  • Security awareness/crime prevention programs are offered to help students develop improved safety habits.
  • The campus is equipped with an extensive outdoor lighting system.
  • Access to campus buildings is restricted at night.
  • Uniformed campus security officers patrol campus on foot, on bicycles, and in marked campus security cars.
  • The Safety & Security Office works closely with the Columbus Police Department.
  • Criminal actions or other emergencies are to be reported to a campus security officer or the Student Affairs Office.

CCAD Alert Emergency Notification Service:

Through CCAD Alert, CCAD can contact you or a family member in the event of a campus emergency by cell phone, email, and/or text messaging. Registration is easy…simply click on the link below and you’ll be taken to the login screen. You must login using your full CCAD ID number (do not include the “P” at the start of your ID number) and your CCAD email address. You will then be taken to the screen when you can enter up to 6 contact numbers or addresses. If you would like a family member or other individual to be notified as well, you should include their contact information somewhere on that screen (we suggest you use one or more of the “Alt” fields). Additionally, if you would like to receive a text message during an emergency, be sure to include your text messaging phone number in the “SMS Phone” field on the right hand side. Finally, be sure to click through all of the screens to complete your update.

You will need to return to this screen in the future to update the system if any of your contact information changes. CCAD will not be able to update this information for you, even if you notify the college of these changes! Additionally, by registering your information in the system, you acknowledge that while CCAD will make a reasonable attempt to notify those registered in the system of any known emergencies or threats, the college cannot guarantee that we will be able to do so, nor that any communication actions we may take will effectively prevent harm to others.

If you have questions about this service, please contact Dwayne Todd, Associate VP and Dean of Students, at 614-222-4015.
