Saturday Morning Art Classes:

Participation in the arts is not just a quiet way for a child to spend an afternoon. Research shows that the benefits of early arts education extend way beyond providing a creative outlet for children. Skills developed through arts education can include creative problem solving, focus, risk taking, and self-discipline.

Registration Information

The program is extremely popular; students are encouraged to register as early as possible.

  • • Enrollment is processed in the order received on a first-come, first-served basis. Any registration received prior to the open registration date will be returned.
  • • Payment-in-full is required in order to register; no partial payments will be accepted.
  • • Students requesting class placement with a friend of the same grade level should mail or fax registration forms and payment together. While placement in the same class cannot be guaranteed, every effort to accommodate these requests will be made.
  • • Because of limited space and security considerations, students are not permitted to attend any class for which they are not registered.
  • • Class changes must be requested through the Continuing Education office located in the Canzani Center and will be granted on a space-available basis.

Scholarship Information

Students may compete for scholarships valued at $75 per term. Additionally, students may apply for a need-based scholarship. There is no entry fee for the competition. Scholarships may be applied only to morning classes.

Children are invited to submit for competition and the need-based scholarship (if applicable) one drawing, which must meet the following guidelines:

  • • Student’s original artwork done without help
  • • Still-life drawing of common objects. We suggest an arrangement of 5 to 10 objects, such as small boxes, bowls, cups, and other simple objects on a table. Draw these objects as you see them, try to fill the page, and add details.
  • • Maximum size is 14 x 17 inches.
  • • Black and white only, using pencil, ink, or marker
  • • Spend about one hour on the drawing.
  • • Fill out the scholarship application and firmly affix to the back of the drawing. This form may be copied. (This form may not be used to register for classes.)
  • • Drawing and scholarship application must be received by the Continuing Education office no later than July 11, 2008 by 5 p.m.

All entrants are encouraged to do their best. Judges will look for students who demonstrate a high level of interest, effort, and creativity. The drawing should include a lot of interesting elements while exhibiting good compositional qualities. Please note that scholarship drawings will not be returned.

Mail your completed drawing and scholarship application form to:
