CCAD Educators' Summer Studio Professional Art Class
The time to focus on your own craft. The space to reconnect. The place for teachers like you.
If you’re a high school art, design, technology or arts integration teacher, your professional effectiveness goes hand in hand with your own personal creativity. CCAD’s Educators’ Summer Studio provides meaningful professional development and impactful creative experiences designed especially for you to take a break from nurturing others and focus on your own portfolio. Experience our new, forward-thinking curriculum firsthand and engage and collaborate with other educators just like you — all in the college’s modern professional studios, labs, and classrooms. Plus, you’ll get to enjoy yoga, films, round-table discussions, and campus outings throughout Columbus’ vast creative landscape.
In just one week, this studio-intensive program will help you recharge your creative side. You will:
- invest in your own creative growth and development
- build relationships with other creative and innovative educators and with the faculty and staff at CCAD
- get specific activities and lesson ideas to take back to your classroom
- bolster your understanding of how design education can be integrated with business and entrepreneurship

Continuing education credits
When you successfully complete all sessions of the Educators’ Summer Studio program, you’ll earn 3.5 professional development units (PDUs; formerly known as CEUs).
These units can be submitted to your professional development committee for K-12 license renewal. If you don’t need PDUs for licensure, consider adding them to your professional portfolio to gain future employment or to receive a promotion or tenure.
You’ll be assigned a private room in our state-of-the-art Design Square Apartments here on CCAD's campus. The Design Square Apartments building is full of sleek glass and modern design and provides spacious rooms and wonderful views of the city. Of course, if you choose not to stay on campus, we will give you a campus parking pass for your time here.
Upgrade your week with us. We have arranged for a discount rate with a nearby Holiday Inn for attendees that prefer an alternative to dorm living. Just a few blocks away from our campus you can book a room for yourself or to share with a colleague who is also attending. The newly renovated Holiday Inn includes a swimming pool and bar with restaurant to unwind after a long day of creating. Free shuttle service is available although the hotels is within walking distance. If this is the option for you, simply sign up here as a nonresidential attendee and then follow the link below to book your room at the Holiday Inn.
You’ll be able to register for specific workshops led by CCAD faculty and staff, using the same resources as our current students. These classes are designed to share digital and traditional methods that can be transferred to your own classroom.
Select from afternoon workshops designed to both challenge and nurture your creative process. Critique and be critiqued by fellow educators. Ask their opinions. Share experiences. Push the boundaries of your creativity by working with others on collaborative projects, discovering the concepts of scale, environment and thinking outside of typical or traditional teaching barriers. Or join our Creative Summer Boot Camp series and learn what it takes to finance, brand and take your own creations to market. Share these principles with your students in your own classrooms and help them pave the way to their own creative independence.
Personal studio time and evening activities
As a teacher, you may feel as though you often don’t have time to practice your own craft. Use time in the studio to focus on rebooting your creative energy. Each day, you will have individual studio time, along with open studio time in the evening. Explore the skills and techniques demonstrated in the program’s workshops and collaborate with other educators. In the evening, you can also enjoy CCAD faculty lectures, trips exploring Columbus and film screenings.
