Convocation with poet Sara Abou Rashed
Convocation schedule is as follows:
- 10:15 a.m. Morning classes for all students end
- 10:30 a.m. First-year students (BFA and graduate) and transfer students line up in Canzani Lobby for the procession
- 10:45 a.m. Procession into First Congregational Church
- 11 a.m. Ceremony begins
- 11:45 a.m. Picnic on the Quad for all CCAD students (upper-level students may begin eating at 11 a.m.)
The event will be in held at First Congregational Church at 11:00 a.m. The church is located directly next to Canzani Center; the entrance faces Broad Street. We ask that all faculty and staff planning to attend please arrive at the church by 10:45 a.m., so that the students may process inside unimpeded. Immediately following Convocation, a campus picnic lunch will be held on the Quad.
Convocation will feature CCAD’s Art.Design.Values series speaker Sara Abou Rashed, a Syrian-born poet and Pushcart Prize nominee.
The war in Syria forced Sara Abou Rashed to Ohio in 2013. Her inspiring poetry about the tragedies and joys of what awaited in this new world has earned many accolades, including a Pushcart Prize nomination. She'll speak at CCAD's fall 2018 convocation.
