FAQ | Alumni Google Accounts

What will happen to my go.ccad.edu email address?

  • Due to digital storage limits imposed by Google, CCAD alumni Google accounts, including go.ccad.edu email addresses, will be permanently disabled as of July 15, 2022. That means that all email and data in alumni accounts and Google Drives associated with CCAD will need to be transferred to a personal email account and will no longer be available after July 15. Any Google add-on purchases you may have made with your account or third-party integrations are not able to be transferred.

My CCAD email address is my primary email address. What should I do?

  • Alumni should create a new email address, and transfer all contacts, emails, folders, and files to this alternate email address. It is also recommended to set up an automatic response on your email in advance of the changeover to give your contacts a new email address to use for you. Please note: Auto-responses will no longer be sent once all accounts are deactivated on July 15.

I haven't accessed my CCAD account in some time, but I'd like to have access to transfer and download all files and data. How do I access my account?

How will this affect me if I am a staff or faculty member, or an undergraduate or graduate student at CCAD?

  • Staff and faculty will continue to use their CCAD employee accounts until they are no longer at CCAD. Undergraduate and graduate students will continue to have access to their CCAD accounts until 6 months after leaving CCAD.

How can I transfer my data, files, and email history from my CCAD account to another Google account?

  • If you already have a personal Google account, Google has a data migration tool called Google Takeout that will help you export all of your email and data. Go to takeout.google.com/transfer to move your CCAD email and Google Drive data to a different Google account. For more detailed Google Takeout instructions, click here. Please note that any files that have been shared from your Drive account will lose their permissions and will need to be re-established once transferred.

How can I move my email history to a non-Google account?

  • The only way you can move your email history to a non-Google account right now is to use Google Takeout as a first step and then import emails to your preferred email system. Go to takeout.google.com to back up the entire email system including storage, unless you deselect those options. For Mac users Apple Mail supports importing files in mbox format. If the destination email is Microsoft Outlook, you can open the exported Google files (mbox) by installing Thunderbird and Outlook on your computer at the same time. Thunderbird is free and will help convert the Google mbox into a format (PST) that Outlook can import. Please note: There are many mbox converters online. Some are free and others cost money. The Thunderbird option is free and it works on both Mac and PC platforms.

Will my CCAD email be recognized by Gmail if I try to sign in after July 15, 2022?

  • No, as of July 15, 2022 CCAD alumni emails will no longer be in service.

What will happen to accounts and information that I have connected to my CCAD email, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc.?

  • CCAD alumni emails will no longer be available for logins for such services as of July 15, 2022. Alumni are responsible for updating their subscriptions and services to a personal email address.

Will my stored emails on my CCAD email address remain stored?

  • No, alumni will have until July 15, 2022 to transfer all contacts, emails, folders, and files to an alternate email address and storage option.

I thought that I would have lifetime access to my CCAD email address. Why has this changed?

  • Since 2006 we’ve maintained Google accounts for CCAD alumni. We were able to provide this benefit because Google offered unlimited storage to its customers in higher education. Google, however, has decided to impose limits on our digital storage. According to Google, our alumni users generate 84% of total college storage. Given the costs associated with these new limits, security concerns over abandoned alumni accounts, and staff resources we are unable to maintain alumni accounts moving forward. We are joining many of our peer AICAD institutions in making the difficult decision to no longer support Alumni Google accounts.

How will I access my Handshake account without my CCAD email?

  • The Career Services office will have to initiate changing your username to access the Handshake job board. Please indicate what your new username email address will be on this form: https://forms.gle/8wnz1S7pGwjBAx9z6. Once changed, you will receive a notification from Handshake about how to login to your new account. We will process account changes closer to July 15th.
