CCAD Residency Requirement
CCAD is dedicated to the residency requirement during the first year of enrollment because it is proven to help students achieve academically. Living on campus offers many advantages including convenient access to labs and involvement opportunities that foster success in the first year and beyond.
CCAD requires all incoming (first-year and transfer) undergraduate students to live in the residence halls during their first year enrolled at CCAD. Therefore, all incoming undergraduate students are required to complete a housing application. Incoming students who meet one of the permitted exemptions below and who are interested in living off-campus may also complete a Residency Requirement Exemption Request form.
A - Students who are from Central Ohio with a zip code within 35 miles of campus and will commute from their parents’ primary residence.
B - Students who will live with an immediate family member whose residence is in Central Ohio with a zip code within 20 miles of campus. The relative must have lived at the address for at least one year prior to the start date of the upcoming semester. This exception is provisional and maybe denied by the college.
C - Students who are at least 21 years of age by the start date of the upcoming semester.
D - Transfer students who have completed a minimum of 24 credits at another college/university.
E - Students who are married or have been living with a domestic partner for an extended period of time. This exception must be verifiable.
All exemptions are granted by request and reviewed on a case-by- case basis. Exemptions to the residency policy are rarely given for reasons other than those listed above. Once a Residency Requirement Exemption Request form is submitted decisions are made by the Office of Residence Life and decisions are generally communicated within 10 business days.
CCAD “Central Ohio” Zip Code Radius
Students interested in living at home who meet the 35 mile exemption must petition for exemption by submitting an on-line Residency Requirement Exemption Request form.
The Resident/Commuter Zip Code List contains the zip codes that are within 35 miles from the CCAD campus zip code 43215 and therefore considered eligible for exemption from CCAD’s residency policy that requires incoming (first-year and transfer) undergraduate students to live on campus during their first year of enrollment at CCAD. Students residing in zip codes within the 35 mile Central Ohio radius zone have the option to live on campus, but are not required to do so.
Some “cities” have several zip codes where not all codes may be on the exemption list, therefore we use the zip code and not the city for exemption approval. Since some zip codes in the exemption radius span more distance than others, the actual drive mileage from the student’s home address to campus may be longer than 35 miles.
