Columbus has an awesome, growing LBGT population.

And now our hometown has a film festival dedicated to showcasing filmmakers from the LGBT community.

LGBTFest, a collaboration among Stonewall Columbus, the Columbus International Film + Video Festival, and Columbus College of Art & Design, won praise from the press, with stories running in Columbus Alive and The Columbus Dispatch.

“For years, LGBT films were a major element of the Columbus International Film + Video Festival,” Terry Mikesell wrote in The Dispatch. “Now, the genre has a festival of its own.”

Plus, the festival, which ran Nov. 13 – 19, 2016, was a win for CCAD — including our students.

“We have a population of LGBTQ students here that will get to see themselves reflected back at them,” CCAD Cinematic Arts Assistant Professor Phil Garrett told Columbus Alive. “And having the festival here exposes [film students] to a lot of films they might not otherwise see.”
