Clayton studies the visual and material cultures of Europe and the Islamic world in the nineteenth century, with a particular focus on cross-cultural depictions of gender and sexuality. Clayton has presented his research at the Cleveland Museum of Art, the RISD Museum, the Dahesh Museum and has held research positions at the Meridian International Center and the Art Institute of Chicago. Clayton is currently a PhD student in the History of Art at The Ohio State University after completing his BA at the University of Dayton and MA at Brown University. Clayton joined CCAD in 2017 and has taught in the CORE program and offered courses on nineteenth and twentieth century visual culture and design.
