Leah Spellman, APR, is an award-winning strategic communications professional with more than a decade of experience spanning the academic, tourism, corporate and nonprofit sectors. She holds the Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) designation, a national credential awarded to PR professionals. Her areas of expertise include integrated marketing communications, media relations, PR planning, internal communications, writing and editing, and community relations.
Prior to joining CCAD in June 2020, Leah served as Director of Communications at Visit Alexandria, the official tourism office for the City of Alexandria in Virginia. Her previous experience also includes serving as PR and Marketing Manager at the University of Florida College of the Arts in Gainesville, Florida.
A passionate storyteller, Leah is also a freelance writer whose work has appeared in The Washington Post, Military Officer Magazine, Jacksonville Magazine, 904 Magazine and numerous other publications. She holds an MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University and was honored with the Outstanding Achievement Award in Nonfiction for the 2019-2020 graduating class. Leah is an active volunteer and has served in leadership roles and on the boards of PRSA National Capital Chapter, Friends Across the Ages, FPRA Gainesville Chapter, and AIGA Jacksonville.
