COLUMBUS INTERNATIONAL FILM + VIDEO FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2017 LINEUP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 65th Columbus International Film + Video Festival — the oldest film festival in the United States — is pleased to announce the 2017 lineup.

Presented by Columbus College of Art & Design, CIF+VF runs April 19 – 23 and features compelling feature-length films, documentaries, short films, cartoons, and student work.

The festival kicks off Wednesday, April 19, with Jennifer Reeder’s Signature Move, which features a thirty-something Pakistani Muslim lesbian who falls in love with a partner (and with lucha-style wrestling). The film made its world premiere at SXSW in March and was named one of the 50 most anticipated films of 2017 by Filmmaker Magazine.

Like many others in this year’s festival, Signature Move has ties to Ohio: Reeder, the film’s director, grew up in central Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University.

Those connections to Ohio are no accident, said Jeremy Henthorn, Executive Director of CIF+VF.

“We wanted to take a look at Columbus as a creative city,” Henthorn said. “Central Ohio has become a real hub for incredibly talented artists and filmmakers. For our 65th year, we wanted to celebrate the films and filmmakers who have a deep connection with our city.”

Other Ohio-centric films in the lineup include Strad Style, a Slamdance award-winning documentary about a rural Ohio man who convinces a famous European concert violinist that he can make a copy of one of the most famous and valuable violins in the world, and The JJ Project, a documentary about an Ohio boy born with brittle bone disease who unites a community while reaching his dream of directing a musical.
