Ruki Neuhold-Ravikumar, acting director of the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum; and incoming president of Kansas City Art Institute, kicks off CCAD's spring Visiting Artists & Scholars Series on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. (EST) with a lecture on rewriting design history. Building on CCAD’s President’s Lecture with Dr. Dori Tunstall from fall of 2021, Neuhold-Ravikumar will further dive into the idea of decolonizing design, using her experience with the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum to center the discussion.

At Cooper Hewitt, Neuhold-Ravikumar oversees more than 100 full-time employees and a collection of more than 215,000 design objects spanning 30 centuries. The only museum in the United States devoted exclusively to historic and contemporary design, Cooper Hewitt’s special exhibitions and educational programs tell design’s story, raise awareness of design’s universal value, and demonstrate design’s power to make a difference. In December 2021, Neuhold-Ravikumar was named the 25th President of Kansas City Art Institute. She will begin her term July 1, 2022.
