Although she’s attended art fairs around Ohio for years with her mother and sister, Saturday, April 6, 2019, marks the first time Heather Hamm (Contemporary Crafts, 2021) will table at one herself, as a vendor at the CCAD Spring Art Fair. Hamm will sell a variety of items, from 2D works (paintings and drawings) to T-shirts, to mugs, macrame, jewelry and more, priced from $3 to $70. In advance of the Art Fair, you can find examples of her work on Instagram.

What can people expect to see from you at the CCAD Spring Art Fair?

I will be selling a variety of things: prints of some of my paintings and drawings, screenprinted T-shirts, ceramic mugs, woven wall hangings, macrame lamps, and handmade jewelry (rings, earrings, and necklaces)!

What’s your philosophy/perspective behind your work?

My philosophy is to always make work that I myself would love to wear/buy, at a very reasonable price, while always being sure to use sustainable and ethically sourced materials in my work.

Why did you want to participate in the CCAD Spring Art Fair? What kind of significance does it have to be selected for it?

I wanted to participate in the CCAD Art Fair for a few reasons. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been going to art fairs/craft shows around the state every year with my mom and sister. I loved being able to see so much art and different kinds of crafts displayed in one place. Plus, meeting all the artists behind the work I was seeing and hearing them all talk about their work and process was really inspiring. I would definitely say that going to these shows was genuinely something I always looked forward to every year growing up. My mom is also an artist, and we always used to say that it would be so fun to someday do a booth together at one of these shows.

With all that being said, being selected to participate in this show definitely has quite a bit of significance to me! I’m very excited to have been selected and finally getting to have the experience of running my own booth at an art fair!

How has your CCAD education influenced the work you will be offering for sale?

I think that so far my work has been influenced heavily by my jewelry class, and School of Studio Arts class. My jewelry class has helped me think of jewelry and what it is/can be in a different way, while also showing me how much work really goes into making even the simplest of pieces. My SOSA class has also influenced me by helping me understand more about entrepreneurship, while also helping me shape what I want my future brand of work to look like and how it could stand out from others.
