2019 Spring Art Fair preview: going wild with animal art
Marcela Pinheiro (MFA, 2020) is a first-year Master of Fine Arts student who studied design as an undergraduate and is now focusing her work on storyboarding. Originally from Caruaru, Brazil, Pinheiro has visited art fairs as a patron and supporter, but the CCAD Spring Art Fair on Saturday, April 6, 2019, marks her first time at an art fair as a vendor. Here, she’ll be selling crocheted bunnies, llama-themed stickers, laser-cut keychains and bookmarks, and more, priced at $2–$15.
Find more examples of her work on Instagram, and read more from her below.
What can people expect to see from you at the CCAD Spring Art Fair?
I will be selling crocheted bunnies, stickers, laser-cut keychains, and bookmarks.
What’s your philosophy/perspective behind your work?
I always loved to make things, from drawings to toys and loved to create connections and stories with those, so my goal is to create things that other people will enjoy and care for, too.
Why did you want to participate in the CCAD Spring Art Fair? What kind of significance does it have to be selected for it?
Participating in the art fair is a great opportunity to meet new people and to share my art with others. I think that being selected is a kind of reinforcement that my work is good and other people can enjoy it, too.
How has your CCAD education influenced the work you will be offering for sale?
Being at CCAD gave me the opportunity to see, hear, and talk to a great number of people from different fields, and it helped me to see that there are multiple paths that could work at the same time and that talents of all kinds should be valued. Although I want to work with animation, I also enjoy crochet. Here, I have space for both.
