Oscar award-winning visual effects artist Steve Hubbard joins CCAD, Ohio Film Group

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus College of Art & Design and Ohio Film Group are pleased to announce the appointment of Academy Award-winning visual effects artist Steve Hubbard.

Hubbard graduated from CCAD in 2010 and went on to work on a number of big-name films, including Peter Rabbit (2018), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), and Life of Pi (2012), when he was part of a team that won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

Hubbard, who previously worked as CG Modeler at Laika, Senior Modeler at Animal Logic, and Adjunct Instructor at CCAD, will be VFX Supervisor at OFG and Associate Professor of Animation at CCAD. He will start both roles on Aug. 6.

“Steve is not only an amazing artist and technician, but also a valuable leader with years of experience managing large teams of artists at the highest levels of the VFX industry,” says Len Hartman, Founder and President of Ohio Film Group, and a board member at CCAD.

Officials at CCAD agree.

“Steve has an incredible amount of industry experience, and he’s a great teacher,” says Charlotte Belland, Chair of CCAD’s Animation program. “He actively wants to give back to the education community, and we’re thrilled to have him on board at Columbus College of Art & Design.”

At CCAD, Hubbard will teach Intro to Animation and Designing Worlds for Virtual Reality this fall and Advanced 3D Modeling for AAA Games and Animation Lab Team in spring 2019. At OFG, Hubbard will oversee all visual effects asset creation and manage OFG’s visual effects team and pipeline.

Hubbard is the latest duel hire for CCAD and OFG. Nasheet Zaman, a lighting and visual effects expert, also works at CCAD and OFG as Visiting Faculty and Animation Supervisor at OFG.

And the relationship between CCAD and OFG will deepen this fall when CCAD opens the new, state-of-the-art Cloyd Family Animation Center, complete with a window into Ohio Film Group.

“I think it’s a really exciting time at CCAD. The Animation program is exploding with the amazing partnership with OFG. And it’s a real growth period for animation in Columbus overall,” says Hubbard, who grew up in Reynoldsburg.
