Oscar winner to teach 3D printing workshop
Columbus, Ohio—The Continuing & Professional Studies department at Columbus College of Art & Design is launching a new series of three-day Intensive Workshops for Artists & Designers about topics ranging from 3D printing and textile design to bookbinding and metal coloring.
The upcoming workshops run July 24–26 and Aug. 2–4, 2019, and are taught by veteran artists and designers, including Oscar award-winning visual effects artist and CCAD Associate Professor Steve Hubbard, who will lead the 3D Printing Workshop Aug. 2–4.
That course will cover the basics of 3D software, including preparing a planter or pot for printing, a walkthrough of the printing process, and, finally, finishing the planters or pots that students will design and complete.
“CCAD’s Continuing & Professional Studies department is committed to offering a wide range of art and design workshops,” says Christine Hill, Director of Continuing & Professional Studies at CCAD. “We want to help artists and designers dig deeper and find their authentic voices.”
Hubbard—who has worked on films including Peter Rabbit (2018), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), and Life of Pi (2012)—said he’s looking forward to making technology more accessible to people in central Ohio.
“I’m really excited to help the community learn how to use 3D printing and software,” says Hubbard, who also works as VFX supervisor at Ohio Film Group. “Using the techniques they learn will expose them to the limitless possibilities of 3D printing.”
Upcoming workshops include:
Dismantle: Reconstructing the Idea of Practice of Collage through Exploration, Fragmentation, and Performance
Color on Metal
Textile Design: Design, Carve and Print, using the Lino Print Technique
Adventures in Bookbinding
3D Printing Workshop
Understanding Fashion Design through Sculpture
Registration for the July 24–26 workshops closes July 22, and registration for the Aug. 2–4 workshops closes July 26.
