Class of 2020
I have an interest in creating visual and tangible work that expresses the intensity of fear and reclaiming it as my own. Using found objects, set design, sound frequency, and visual image allows the physical experience of fear to show within my work. I am interested in making an audience feel the un-comfortability of fear, and provoke anxiety in hopes to achieve the most realistic individual form of fear within each person. Disturbing imagery, exaggerated sound frequency, and overlapping visual filters create an unexpected and violent portrait of my personal fears. Creating work that is intentionally pushing uncomfortable environments for each viewer allows them to gain a perspective on how others’ lives may be. The psychology of fear is often faded by skepticism and lack of empathy, driving me to push the boundaries in hopes that empathy will be above apathy.
