Portfolio

Your portfolio should contain 20 examples of your work, which can be a combination of images and time-based work. You should submit your portfolio entirely as digital files through ccad.slideroom.com.

 

Project proposal

In PDF format, please provide the following:

Title of project

Describe your project in one sentence. Clarify your project’s theme or idea in a concise manner.

Articulate the goals and objectives of your project. 100 words. What are the objectives of your project? Give your most focused vision of your finished project. What do you intend? Who is your audience? Why?

Write a detailed project description. 250 words. Write about your project in detail, describing what you want to make or do. What area or media will you use? What techniques will you use? How and why will you use them? What concerns will you address in this project? What is your conceptual approach to this project? What is the methodology you will use to complete the project? What resources—like facilities and instruction—will you need from CCAD? How will the final work or production enhance your interests and skills?

Write a detailed history of how you arrived at this project. 250 words. What are the main influences upon your work as an artist or designer? Cite sources of inspiration for the project. What formal or informal training have you had? How do your past experiences inform this project? What is the relationship between your proposed project and past or current work by other artists/designers? In light of current dialogue in your media, how is your vision unique, interesting, or original?

Letters of recommendation

Three letters of recommendations from faculty, guidance counselors, professional artists, employers or other adults not related to you. You should submit this through ccad.slideroom.com as well.

Financing your education doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Complete your FAFSA, send us the information and CCAD will use this to figure out a package that works for you.

 

International students: proof of English proficiency

If you are an international student from a country where English is not the primary language, you must submit proof of your English proficiency. A minimum score of TOEFL iBT 80 or IELTS 6.5 is required. You should request your score through the test center; you can submit it via postal mail. CCAD’s code for TOEFL results is 1085.

Master of Design application materials

Portfolio/evidence of creative experience

Please describe 3 work, educational, or personal projects that you feel are relevant to the Master of Design program. Please include in your discussion:

  • A brief description of the project and why you did it, i.e. work, educational, personal.
  • What challenges did you face with this project?
  • What kind of process did you use; how did you approach the project?
  • An explanation of the results and the nature and scope of your contribution to them.
  • What did you learn from this project?
  • Describe your collaborative or team experience

Please submit this as a PDF document through ccad.slideroom.com.

  • You are encouraged to include 3-20 visuals if applicable in the PDF or submitted as media files in SlideRoom*

*Visuals may include 2D/3D work, digital and time-based work, marketing or promotional materials, websites, business plans or presentations, technical, engineering or architectural images, or other documentation. Applicants submitting time-based work in excess of 15 minutes should submit a cued-up sample video along with the full-length work.

In all cases the portfolio should demonstrate critical thinking, problem and concept exploration, and proposed solutions.

 

Statement of intent

Briefly describe your reasons for applying to this program and what you hope to accomplish. Summarize the educational and work experiences that might be relevant to your study at CCAD. Finally, discuss your ambitions for after graduation. You can submit the statement of intent as a written document (max 2 pages) or a 2-3 minutes video.
