5.14.20 | Dear Incoming Students: CCAD is ready & here for you

CCAD was made for you. Now, and always.

As artists and designers, you know how to make something beautiful and meaningful out of the most unexpected and challenging materials. You know how to creatively solve problems and envision a future that better serves us all.

And at Columbus College of Art & Design, we’ve spent our 141-year history developing smart approaches and creative solutions to the thorniest of issues. And that takes us to today.

This is an unprecedented period in our personal and collective histories. We understand that you may have questions about what the fall 2020 semester will look like as we all adapt to changes required by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While we’re still ironing out the final details, I want to let you know that your health and safety and the quality of your academic experience are our most important priorities.

  • On health and safety at CCAD From re-examining the configuration of classrooms, labs, and residence halls to adapting to new ways of hosting group activities, exhibitions, class events, and more, CCAD is following the guidelines and rules set by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine to keep our students, faculty, staff, visitors, and others as safe as possible.
  • On the quality of the academic experience at CCAD CCAD’s faculty and academic leadership made a speedy transition to remote education for spring 2020. We’ve learned a lot from that transition, and with feedback from our students and faculty, as well as with the assistance of national consultants, we’re preparing for a variety of learning scenarios for this fall, depending on directives from the state of Ohio. Those scenarios include in-person education, remote education, or a hybrid of the two. You can find more details on that here.
  • On the quality of the extracurricular experience at CCAD Time in the classroom and in the studio is important, but we know that what happens outside of your curricular activities is valuable, too. Whatever your interest—professional development, social gatherings, cultural connections, faith-based practices, public service, or anything else that strikes your fancy—at CCAD, you’ll find student organizations that give you the opportunity to improve your leadership skills, connect with faculty and staff members, and make a positive impact on the college community.

Since its start, CCAD has made its home in the heart of Columbus’ thriving and safe downtown Discovery District, alongside Columbus Museum of Art and other important cultural and educational institutions. And while that physical space—not to mention our state-of-the-art facilities and labs—is important to us, CCAD is so much more than its physical home. Our faculty, staff, and emerging artists and designers like you together make the college a vibrant place of learning and growth, no matter where we are.

I encourage you to explore our website, ccad.edu, and learn more about the stories being told in the CCAD community on our blog. Get to know us a bit more on social media: Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook are a great place to start.

And if you have additional questions about CCAD and its response to COVID-19, visit THIS ADMISSIONS PAGE for more detailed information on our college’s plans for the 2020–2019 academic year.

We can’t wait to see you here.

With best wishes,

Dr. Melanie Corn
