Fat Girl Love Club author gets CXC love

Gabby Metzler (Fine Arts, 2017) received a big surprise during the 2020 Cartoon Crossroads Columbus comics festival in early October, winning this year’s Emerging Artist Award and taking home an oversized novelty check and a significant prize: $7,500.

The festival, also known as CXC, is an international showcase for cartoon art in all forms, and CCAD has been an integral part since CXC’s founding in 2015. Among the festival’s organizers are CCAD Comics & Narrative Practice and Illustration Chair Laurenn McCubbin; this year CCAD sponsored a talk with Iron Circus Comics founder C. Spike Trotman, as well as LGBTQIA+ programming track at CXC.

Metzler’s award and other CXC activities were covered by the webcomics blog Fleen, whose coverage can be read at this link.
