FotoFocus: Haunting

Seven artists in "Haunting" treat time as an unstable, accumulating force rather than a neutral record, working across photography, sculpture, and process-based imagery to surface what plain sight cannot. Lydia Smith and Hans Gindlesberger excavate deep history, one compressing millennia into a burial mound's panorama, the other rubbing away photographic images to expose the material memory beneath. Kate Shannon and Amber J. Anderson dwell in suspended presents, from testimonial faces bearing unspeakable weight to pandemic-era paper houses built as vessels for confinement. Arne Svenson, Lori Kella, and Gina Osterloh turn toward anticipated or vanishing futures, including sites of coming gun violence, disappearing Great Lakes species, and figures caught between visibility and camouflage. Across all seven practices, the image emerges not as evidence of what was, but as a charged site where past, present, and future collide.
