SEEING

A two-person exhibition featuring the works of Ana England and Kate Kern in the Project Space at Beeler Gallery.

SEEING features the work of Ana England and Kate Kern, two artists exploring the underlying structures and connections foundational to the world we inhabit and create.

England and Kern share an intention to explore deeply and see dimensionally into the natural world and into how we, as humans, think about, feel towards, and imagine our place within it. Through a variety of forms ranging from drawing to sculpture, viewers are invited into the overlapping vision of these artists.

Kern creates drawings, artists’ books, and installations, while England fabricates discrete three-dimensional forms from a variety of materials, ranging from ceramics to bronze. Issues of scale and time run through both artists’ work. Ana’s interest is in evolutionary time, connecting the development of organisms and the formation of biological and universal structures to display the kinship of all creatures. Kern is inspired by the seen and unseen as experienced in the overlapping presence of memory, dreams and awareness of seasonal change in everyday life.
They both use scale to juxtapose the macro and the microscopic, revealing fundamental connections while questioning a perceived hierarchy that places humans outside of the natural world.
