Hulu is dropping season three of its Black History Month series Your Attention Please in the first week of February 2022, and among those Black innovators featured this season is none other than Columbus College of Art & Design grad and children’s book illustrator Keturah Bobo (Fine Arts, 2006).
Bobo has made a name for herself making diverse and inspirational artwork that speaks to and about children, particularly Black children. “I try to make work that inflicts some type of change, empowers people,” she says in a trailer for the show. (See her segment beginning at 1:17.)
Bobo’s appearance on Your Attention Please comes in the season’s third episode, which debuts on the streaming service on Friday, Feb. 4. The show, hosted by actor and comedian Craig Robinson, uses documentary interviews, animation, and more to celebrate the lives of a variety of Black creators, artists, and noteworthy people who are breaking barriers and challenging racialized stereotypes. In addition to Boba, they include a woman working in the pit at NASCAR, an architect, a bull rider, a skydiver, an ice cream scientist, and others.Bobo has been busy beyond the screen. Her painting Internal Battle is part of the Kent State University exhibition Textures: The History & Art of Black Hair (which was featured on the Cleveland 19 News and is on view through Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022), in December 2021, she celebrated the limited-edition Baby Dove skin care set exclusively sold at Walmart (with sales benefitting the Black Birth Equity Fund), and in January 2022, HarperCollins released the Bobo-illustrated children's book Opal Lee and What it Means to Be Free, about the woman often called the "Grandmother of Juneteenth." News around the book was covered in such outlets as Variety and Publishers Weekly, and Mommies Reviews.
