Joey arrived at CCAD to teach Philosophy after earning his Master's and doing PhD work in the English Department at OSU with specializations in Medieval Literature and Critical Theory. At OSU, he was awarded a Presidential Fellowship, and he also taught courses ranging from Composition to Shakespeare to English Linguistics. He’s been teaching Philosophy at CCAD for over 10 years. His philosophy courses focus on the relationship between philosophy and art, and how that relationship informs and guides the work of artists.

While Joey’s philosophical interests are rooted in Classical and Medieval philosophy, they extend well into the 21st Century, and his courses reflect that very wide breadth of study. His students study the work of thinkers like Plato, René Descartes, James Baldwin, Simone de Beauvoir, Franz Fanon, and his courses cover philosophical movements like Empiricism, Post-Modernism, Cyberfeminism, Hauntology, and Accelerationism.

In addition to teaching philosophy, Joey also works as a professional video artist and event organizer. Under his stage name VJ Vendetta, he’s got 15 years of VJing experience, touring the US as a VJ/LD, holding a variety of VJing residencies, VJing every nearby major regional EDM festival, and performing as far away as Los Angeles. He’s been throwing Music & Art events for just as long, from curating gallery exhibits to large-scale music events. His work in Columbus’ cultural landscape has even been profiled as part of a feature article in 614 Magazine.
