Ric Petry lives in Columbus, Ohio and Sedgwick, Maine. He taught at the Columbus College of Art & Design for 38 years, where he helped to create the Media Studies division (Photography, Video, Animation) and Graduate Studies.

Ric is a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, three Ohio Arts Council Fellowships, and a Greater Columbus Arts Council Individual Artist Grant. His art making is broad in scope and media, including commercial and fine art photography, film, sculpture, and video and animation in collaboration with dance performance. His work is included in numerous public and private collections.

Dr. Petry received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Akron, where he majored in Philosophy and History of Science, a Master of Fine Arts from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University, and an Honorary Doctor of Arts and Letters from CCAD.
