Yara Elfouly is a multidisciplinary artist who draws from her multicultural background as she works across different styles. Her work explores history, mythology and academia through satire in a variety of mediums, including animation, comics, and installation.

Elfouly earned a Master of Fine Arts in Experimental Animation at California Institute of the Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts with University Honors in Painting and Printmaking and a minor in Art History from Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts Qatar.

In Qatar, she worked on local productions with Studio 20Q and the National Puppet Theatre, participated in group exhibitions at the W Doha Hotel and Gate Mall, and held a solo exhibition, titled Mind the White Walls, at VCUArts Qatar. In 2022, Elfouly’s animated short film Supermuseums screened at the Eyeworks Festival of Experimental Animation, and she was nominated for an Ignatz Award for her comic Archaeologist Landings.

Elfouly is a Visiting Assistant Professor at Columbus College of Art & Design and recipient of an AICAD Post-Graduate Teaching Fellowship. Read her comic Court Comicals here.
