Buy local art and support CCAD students and alumni at the Spring 2018 CCAD Art Fair

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Spring is finally here, which means the semiannual CCAD Art Fair is just around the corner.

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, come support local artists and designers at the CCAD Art Fair.

The semiannual event will feature work from 128 top CCAD students and alumni, including 74 current CCAD students and 54 CCAD graduates.

The CCAD Art Fair will include traditional fine arts pieces like paintings, glassworks, and sculptures, in addition to enamel pins, prints, illustrations, handcrafted housewares, and contemporary jewelry (like the work by CCAD grad Kaleigh Shrigley's One Six Five above).

Among those selling work at the CCAD Art Fair is Virginia Birchfield, who graduated from CCAD in 2009 with a BFA in Interior Design.

Birchfield often works with live-edge wood cut from naturally fallen trees and contrasting materials like concrete and steel. At the CCAD Art Fair, she’ll be selling wall sculptures, accent tables and small functional wood and concrete pieces.

Her work — like much of the work at the CCAD Art Fair — is unique.

”Usually you see wood used in functional items like furniture, but to see it incorporated into a wall art piece makes a very dramatic statement,“ Birchfield says.

The CCAD Art Fair will take place Saturday, April 7, at Columbus College of Art & Design’s Loann Crane Center for Design (112 Cleveland Ave., Columbus, OH 43215). A First Look ticket gets you in early (between 9 and 11 a.m.) so you can get first dibs on all the goodies at the fair. General admission runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are available online at ccad.edu/artfair for $20 (First Look) and $5 (General Admission) and at the door for $25 (First Look) and $7 (General Admission). Parking is free. Proceeds from all art sold at the fair go directly to the artists, and proceeds from ticket sales go toward student scholarships at CCAD. In conjunction with the CCAD Art Fair, Ampersand Emporium, CCAD’s school store featuring CCAD swag and alumni work, will be open extended hours, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Ampersand Emporium sales help to support student scholarships. For more information, visit shopccad.org.
