On November 17, 2023, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) tallied and announced the results of Columbus College of Art & Design’s faculty unionization election. Of the eligible voters, 116 or 75% voted.

Full-time faculty election results: With 90% voting, and by a count of 24 to 10 with two challenged ballots, the full-time faculty voted in favor of being represented by the Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT).

Adjunct faculty election results: With 70% voting, and by a count of 69 to 10 with one spoiled vote, the adjunct faculty voted in favor of being represented by the Ohio Federation of Teachers (OFT).

The OFT has stated their intention to petition the NLRB to combine both full-time and adjunct faculty into one collective bargaining unit. The status of that petition will be known in the coming weeks. If submitted and granted, all faculty will be represented collectively in one unit. If it is not, adjunct faculty will have their own unit, and the full-time faculty will have a separate unit when negotiating employment contracts.

“Throughout the last two months, CCAD has respected the election process,” said CCAD President Melanie Corn."While we would prefer to work together directly without union involvement, we continue to be committed to working with all faculty for the benefit of our students. We can all agree that students are the heart of our mission and their education our topmost priority.”
